Why Join the PAS?

Astronomy is fun, but it's a real blast when you do it with other people.

The PAS is a local astronomy club in New Orleans, LA, where you'll find like-minded enthusiasts eager to share their knowledge and love of the sky with you, along with their own dark sky observatory. Club meetings offer opportunities to try out new equipment, learn new techniques, and make new friends. Develop your skills and passion for astronomy by joining today.

Welcome to the PAS Site

THE PONTCHARTRAIN ASTRONOMY SOCIETY (PAS) is a non-profit astronomy club with a membership of nearly 130 individuals and families, mainly from the Southeast Louisiana and Southern Mississippi areas. PAS members come from many walks of life and have diverse interests in amateur astronomy, who strive to enhance the study and enjoyment of astronomy.

PAS members hope to promote an understanding and appreciation of astronomy in our community, sharing their time and telescopes to engage the public with unique astronomy experiences.

We hope that the information to be found on this PAS site encourages you to enjoy astronomy, too!

I am the current President of the PAS.

By the time the May PAS meeting is called to order I will be somewhere off the east coast probably up near Maine or Nova Scotia on my way across the Atlantic to Ireland. Hopefully on the way over my small chance of seeing the Northern Lights from my window seat on the port side (left) of the jet will yield results. Anyway we are excited about this trip but scheduling was not able to avoid a conflict with the May PAS meeting. John Martinez, our 1stVice-President also has a conflict on May 27th so our meeting will be orchestrated by Kent Birkle, our 2nd Vice-President.
