PAS President Message PDF Print E-mail

Hello Everyone, Our next club meeting will be Friday, September 7th at 7:30pm. Before I mention our next speaker, I would like to once again thank our last speaker, Gabe Dickens, whose presentation was on (The air in hiss scope) and I must say he really meant "HISS" scope. The presentation was enjoyed by all as it was very well done!

The next presentation, which will surely be another great one, will be by our very own Dr. Gregory Seab. Dr. Seab's presentation is titled "What the Higgs" so I hope many will come to find out what the "heck" this is going to be about.

During the meeting we will be selling our monthly raffle tickets as well as the end of the year Christmas raffle. Ticket sales are $1.00 each or 6 for $5.00 for the monthly raffle and for the Christmas raffle the tickets are $5 each or 6 for $25.

Just a reminder, the main prize for the Christmas party is the Coronado PST Solar Scope! I would also like to remind everyone that when you purchase a ticket ALL proceeds go straight to the club so we can do things like: getting speakers, nice raffle prizes, food for picnics and our Christmas party, etc... so please consider purchasing tickets whenever you’re at a meeting.

If you haven’t heard about the upcoming Deep South Regional Stargaze, Barry Simon will briefly give details about the upcoming event.

Last but not least, as you know the end of the year is quickly approaching which means it is also time to consider running for an officer position. So if anyone is interested please let me know.

Until then, Keep looking up!

Your President, Brian LeCompte

Ever think your opinion doesn't matter?  Well, it does. The PAS wants to know what you think. So check out the new Polls Page and tell us what you think. And if you have any ideas for polls or surveys, please contact me or Jamie and we'll be happy to put them up.

Kenner Observatory RIP

After many years of operation the Kenner Observatory has been closed. After Hurricane Katrina, leaks in the roof were never fixed and the building has been getting worse and worse with sheetrock falling down and fears of mold growth. Recent requests for the city to repair the damage resulted in the city deciding the building was not fit for occupancy and requesting that we cease operation of the observatory.

Astronomy Books, Guides and Star Atlases

Book listLong-time member and former Secretary Remy Bosio, Jr. was kind enough to put together a list of "how-to" astronomy books, guides and star atlases that might come in handy. Check them out if you don't have them already. Thanks, Remy!
